Sunshine Safety
Prezzo teamed up with SafeSun Foundation for their annual fundraiser, Martinis for Melanoma. Five local restaurants, including Prezzo, competed for the coveted "Golden Martini" trophy. We asked the public to donate as a way to vote for their favorite restaurant. On Sunday, November 15, viewers tuned-in to a virtual event for educational presentations, martini-making videos from each of the participating restaurants, and to reveal that Prezzo had won the trophy! The online event raised over $20,000 that is being donated to AVDA (Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse) for a permanent sunshade for their playground area.
SafeSun foundation supports sun safety education from elementary school through high school. They are benefactors of institutions and groups that care for patients diagnosed with these cancers. Furthermore, their funds go to support research into the multiple innovative treatments being designed to treat these cancers. We sat down with Fran Nachlas and Dr. Nathan Nachlas, founders of SafeSun Foundation, to share some tips on sun safety. You can never be too safe when living in the Sunshine State. Their top three tips are:
Wear a Broad Spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF 15 every day! Apply 15 minutes before going outside. Also wear a wide-brimmed hat, long sleeves, and long pants when possible. There are lots of lightweight options available that won't overheat you in the Florida sun! Check out Coolibar, Pelagic, Columbia, Lilly Pulitzer and many more companies that actually have SPF in their clothing.
Protect your eyes, lips and ears as well! Be careful with reflective surfaces like water, sand and concrete
